Menu.Acowa Outreach-Uganda

Teso Safe Motherhood Project is a small medical clinic located in the rural Northern Ugandan town of Soroti. The clinic focuses on prenatal, women's health and infant care but provides medical assistance to a much larger range of community members as well. Each week, a group of about a dozen staff members from the clinic travel to surrounding communities to provide outreach programs for those who do not have the means to travel to Soroti. One of their regular stops is the village of Acowa, about an hour and a half drive, where an Internally Displaced People, IDP, camp was formed in the early 2000s. Although all of those who live in the camp are Ugandans, they have been forced from their homes by violence related to the Lord's Resistance Army or the Karamojong Cattle Warriors. TSMP's mission is to bring critical services to those populations in most need of quality maternal and child healthcare. For more information, visit www.midwifeassist.org/
